Why the same photo editing preset can produce different results across a set, and when individual matching works better than copied settings.
The short answer
A preset applies the same saved adjustments to every photo. It does not account for how each photo was exposed, which light source was present, or how the camera recorded the scene.
That is why a preset can look clean on one frame, too warm on the next, and washed out on another. For a consistent set, keep the creative direction the same but adjust each photo for its own starting point.

- Exposure: A curve that suits a balanced frame may crush shadows in an underexposed one.
- White balance: Daylight, shade, and indoor light react differently to the same temperature and tint changes.

Use a preset when the photos already have similar exposure, white balance, and camera profiles. It is fast and easy to revise.
Use a LUT when you want to carry a finished color direction between compatible photo or video editors. You can make a LUT from a reference image, but normalize each image first; a LUT cannot understand why one frame is darker or warmer than another.
Use adaptive matching when the starting photos vary but should move toward the same reference. The aim is a consistent direction, not identical pixels or color values.
What to check before export
Look at the full set, then check the frames that feel different. Compare skin tone, neutral objects, highlight warmth, shadow color, and saturation. If one image stands out, fix exposure and white balance before pushing the creative look harder.
